Huh. I think you're correct. Phsyco lobotomy friend is indeed in the wrong. If we're now considering those other than Sucre, Broccoli, and Ms. Adelaide, I think Student may also count as in the wrong. We know now that they were either in control of of their actions the whole time, or gained such ability while speaking to broccoli. (after the stabby-stabs) I personally think the former will turn out to be correct. So if they had control when they stabbed lobotomy friend, they committed murder. They were stabbed first, but I don't think the stabbing on their part was intended as self defense so much as vengeance. It is somewhat fair, but also very ethically questionable.

I have to disagree that no character is in the wrong. I agree fully that there isn't, reasonably, anything that could have been done to alter the outcome, but that doesn't mean everyone involved is equally faultless.

Broccoli did threaten to do harm, but it is shown both from our knowledge of them and from the text itself once their bluff is called that they had no intention of causing any at any point, nor did they have a weapon of any kind with which to enact such violence. They were here to, from the best of their knowledge, save the universe. A very reasonable assumption when told by the creator of the universe that sealing the tear was important. And it is *widly* understood by the other characters that Broccoli is legit, this isn't a 'your crazy vs my crazy' situation, this is a 'your crazy vs a fact we both know and agree is a fact'. So Broccoli, good intent, good actions.

Sucre was trying to help her friend - repair a rip in the universe. It's not as if Broccoli was subtle or clandestine about the nature of their mission. This is a very important point, I think. And they similarly had no intent (or capability) to inflict violence.

Ms. Adelaide is mostly trying to keep her daughter safe at this point, though the fact that it got to this point in the first place is partly on her (though minimally, to be sure; she is hardly the bad guy here.) How? Well, because *Broccoli was neither subtle nor clandestine about the nature of their quest.* Ms. Adelaide had two months to address the potental conflict there. And she knew there would be a good chance for conflict, because...

The person that *is* at fault here is Ms. Adelaide's psycho friend. This is not a case of two sides not agreeing or understanding each other causing some kind of fallout. One side is well meaning children told by *god herself* to do something - and which no one else disagrees were really genuinely told by *god herself* - children who harmed no one and had legitimate reason to think they were saving the world (and even still refused to actually harm anyone in the process). The other side is a girl who is willing to stab a kid who's trying to repair a tear in the universe they've been told is bad by *god herself* because they want a monster boyfriend. And she wasn't bluffing - she genuinely tried to stab them several times. They were only even stabbed after first stabbing someone in the back who had so far only blocked them! This was not a fight on equal moral ground at any point. Psycho friend was always in the wrong at every stage without exception. And, I hate to say it, you can't stick up for psycho kid murdering friend without being a little tarnished yourself, Ms. Adelaide (though obviously considerably less.)

I hate how no character is in the wrong here. Broccoli was just trying to be polite and good, Sucre was just helping her only friend, and Ms. Adelaide is just making a fair choice to keep her daughter safe. I cried so hard reading this page the first time, because this is one of those series where I automatically think of what I would do in a character's position to make everything fine, but in this case I just can't. If I was Broccoli, I'd be crying and screaming and flailing around while lying on the floor wishing I could stop.

Everybody's hyped at Student's first words but I'm bawling over Student's different inflection. Student has gradually learned to communicate by selecting what exactly they copy & changing bits, but this is the most explicit example of that and what they imply is driving me absolutely mad:

———>"You didn't MEAN to hurt anyone" "Didn't mean to…"

That could be seen as Student affirming Broccoli's statement by saying, best they can, "yes, I didn't mean to". I first read it as Student being confused over why Broccoli would say that, like "yeah I didn't mean to- what? I- of course I did" even though that makes less sense. Given Student's reaction to killing the lassie…I'm more inclined to guilt.

———>"You were JUST copying" "You we're just copying"

If that apostrophe isn't a typo then I'm gonna be mad because THIS?? WHAT IS THIS?? THE IMPLICATIONS??? Broccoli saying "YOU are copying" and Student responding with "well, WE'RE just copying" is absolutely nuts and I think it could be so cool actually because:

———>"That's what you do!" "That's what you do?"

THEY ARE INDEED GOING OFF OF BROCCOLI OH MY GODDDD. Ok ok. The question mark adds a bit of confusion on Student's end, but about what exactly? I like to think that, basing it off of the last one, Student has partly kept copying others because Broccoli was copying Sucre and Mrs. Adelaide (to, y'know, learn to cook & such things) and so thought it was the right direction to go in. But now they're confused because Broccoli seems to be stressed about that.

I think the actual dialogue could be expanded to this:

"You didn't MEAN to hurt anyone"

"You're right, I DIDN'T mean to hurt anyone."

"You were JUST copying"

"You- what about it? We're BOTH copying other people."

"That's what you do!"

"You copy others too, why are you upset about this?

And considering that Student immediately stops copying,,, maybe at this point they saw "ok Broccoli doesn't like me when I copy others, maybe if I stop doing that they'll finally like me" AND THAT'S WHY THEY SMILED AFTER BROCCO RESPONDED PROPERLY AAAAGH.
