In order to "go beyond the path layed" that Doris made for broccoli she would have to have some form of free will or be affected by a paracausal entity. I think this personification of nothing is a blind spot in her omniscience because it is paracausal. Literally everything it is and every action it does comes from nothing, thus being impossible to predict or see coming unless you are direct observing it, like being the person or thing its mimicing or being in the same room. I also think this allows nothing to be one of the only entities that can relate to Doris because has free will. Or maybe it stopped being nothing the second it walked through the door and he just has power that counteract Doris' so she cant see him. But she should still see the affects around him and the absence of space he causes. But she doesnt to our knowledge so far. So I think it's paracausality is affecting the so much that when he entered. Its going to cause a butterfly effect where Doris' omniscient constantly tries to predict wich timeliness shes in till she realizes that knows practically nothing about the future also hinting that the nothing has brought entropy into the void thus will slowly But surely bring everything to a lower energy state of nothingness. Just throwing out ideas. Hope you have some fascinating ideas with me.

Doris cannot comprehend the peppermint being anything but a thousand daggers because Doris is Order, the enemy of contradiction; Paper is white, flat and simple, Origami adds depth and dimensions, creates patterns and "destroys" old ones; In the same vein, Student/Nothing comprehends polite and good as absence. It actually explains pretty much the whole vegetable plot... I missed this part of the theme for the whole dang story. Oh well. Better late than never!
