Hey Doris hey Doris hey Lady Doris whats wrong Lady Doris? Are you tripping on the rules? The rules you yourself have enforced on the world your whole existence? The rules that you were perhaps taught to never question by someone else and thus never understood their meaning? Hey Lady Doris do you perhaps just follow these rules because they were drilled into your head by some origami-like people? Do you even have a moral stance that wasnt forced on you by the only influential figures you've ever had that didnt want anything good for you in the first place? Hey Doris have you heard about cycles of abuse Lady Doris-

It's a little dance that humans do to establish that we're both real, that we aren't a threat to each other, and that we both experience similar things. Most people understand that intuitively and never have to think about it, but when you don't already have that understanding it can take a long time to learn because it seems so useless on the face of it. I hope that this comic helps more people gain that understanding, because it's a useful skill to have, and small talk really is a beautiful thing once you know why we do it.

I have a cool idea for Doris to be explained in a simple way.

She is a creation of someone, anyone. But all they did was create her and give her a specific set of attributes, maybe the only one being that she drinks tea out of boots. The other one being a half thought out idea of her morality, but that's it. The creator forgets about her, leaving her surrounded by nothing. And through infinity she learns how to create matter.

But I know what Doris represents and it's best to keep it vague because the creator will lose grasp at that point. It's better to create from a personal space, not a logical one (even if free will is ultimately a lie), all the art I love is made from there.

Doris is right, of course. The circle is, in fact, the perfect shape. It is perfection itself. No beginning, middle or end. Self-similar, unbroken, eternal… peerless.

It's a strange thing, that the "not real" characters seem to be much more... I don't know the word for it.

Even though they seemingly aren't "real", what determines that? What determines anything? Just Doris's random thoughts...? Where did she learn "How is the weather?". If she was the first thing to be, then how did she ever learn anything?

Those questions flood fear into my core. Yet both of them just... seemingly don't understand the things they do. Parallels in a way.

I feel that, if Broccoli was created without anybody, and had the same powers Doris does, they would be very alike. Vice versa.
